Affordable Housing for Low Income Seniors - Study Committee Meeting. The "Affordable Housing for Low-Income Seniors" Study Committee was established to examine the local aspects and factors that impact the availability of housing for low-income seniors in our area. Over the next several months, the Study Committee will educate itself and the community about the issues, develop a set of consensus questions for the membership, resulting in a position statement and ultimately advocacy for improving low-income housing options. All LWV-FRA members are invited to participate in the Study Committee. This is a complex topic with many players (e.g., HUD; federal, state, county, and local governments; local civic organizations, etc. ) and many potential issues. Currently, waiting lists for getting into affordable housing for low-income seniors exceed the number of existing units and all studies suggest that the number of seniors in our communities will continue to rise significantly over the next decade. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the issue and to help contribute to possible solutions.
